I’ve done it. There’s no turning back now, the final cast has been set and all I have to do is propel myself forward into a life of exploration and adventure, because just now, today, I quit my job in London to travel back to Thailand for just under a month and then, THEN, to move to Australia for the foreseeable future to see what life has to offer over there.
I have been dreaming of moving down under for years now, but life, the pesky thing it is, has always managed to get in the way. It wasn’t until I came back from Central America this year and I knew that I hadn’t finished with my travelling adventures, the world hadn’t finished with me (remember in my first ever post I said about how Central America had changed me and I’ll go into it at a later date? Well this is it!) I landed back in London and I realised that I have so much more to see, I had so many new experiences to enjoy before I could settle into ‘normal life’, so I made the decision, I had to change my life so that travel could be my main calling. So, a few weeks after I returned to England I applied for my Australian visa, a few months ago I booked my flight and today, an hour ago, I handed in my three months notice. As of today, I am on official public countdown to the adventure of my life, I am so excited!
So, what’s the plan?
I fly from LHR back to BKK on January 11th, to explore my favourite country again, I will see some friends, enjoy island life, soak up the sun and eat lots of amazing food, then after Thailand I will shimmy to Cambodia to visit Angkor Wat for a few days. This has been a dream of mine since I was a child, the thought of seeing the great temples whilst the sunrise illuminates them fills me with absolute glee. I will then fly from BKK to Melbourne on Feb 5th 2015 to start what I hope to be a few years travel. I will be based in Melbourne but I will be travelling around Australia, exploring the stunning country and beyond. I am so happy I’ve decided to do this, I know that at 27 (soon to be 28) I should be considering ‘settling down’ with a house, career and more; but I’m not ready to ‘settle’ I’m craving to see the world.
Long-term travelling has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, I’ve done backpacking before, slept in hostels, ate amazing food, danced and laughed my way around the world, lived on Koh Tao in the wonderful Thailand, but I’m still not done. So, family, friends, Internet stalkers, blog readers, wanders, I hope you’re ready for a change of pace around here, because I’m going on the road again!
Of course, I still have three months left in England, (I couldn’t leave before Christmas), so over the next three months I will be sharing London travel tips, my favourite parts of the city, hidden gems, budget London etc so stick around whilst I bid farewell to the city which has been a true love of mine for many many years now.
