Mountain Style Celebration

For all of our adventures in The Alps with family, there was one reason why we had all gathered there, one reason alone. That reason was to celebrate my beautiful nan’s 90th Birthday, all together in the shadow of the great mountains.

Did someone say 90th Birthday?

We awoke early on my nan’s 90th Birthday to another absolutely stunning warm day in The Alps, the sun glistening in the blue sky, the mountains hung over us in the distance, it was the kind of day that you can feel will be amazing, there was a buzz about the house as we arranged what was to happen that day, a garden party of the most wonderful kind. Nan was to stay unaware of what was happening in the garden, tables, chairs, bunting and food were to be put up, wild flowers were to be collected from fields by myself and Jack whilst the garden was prepared.

Jack and Linda’s garden turned into a birthday paradise, bunting was hung along the garden edge, birthday cards floated in the wind, hung from string, the tables and chairs a triage of colours creating a beautiful rainbow table; the wild flowers differing in size, shape and scent adorned the table tops, and in the background there was music playing, a selection of Nan’s favourites from Frank Sinatra to Simon and Garfunkel, with everything in between.

My brother Harry went to get Nan as the rest of the family (all sixteen of us) stood in a line to welcome her with the decorations and the mountains behind. She walked into the garden, hand in hand with my brother to the music of Frank Sinatra as we all welcomed her to the party of the year, it was such a lovely entry to a party there were even a few tears from select people (Okay, yes, I’m a wuss, what of it? It was beautiful, okay?!)

After our kisses of happy birthday to the lady of the moment my nan done something quite wonderful, she danced with my cousin Jack to the sounds of her favourite music. My nan loves a bit of a boogie, at Jack and Linda’s wedding last year she danced with my cousins, at BBQ’s, birthdays, Christmas it’s almost guaranteed that she’ll get up and dance. 90 years spent laughing and dancing her way through the wonderful moments in life and I can safely say that she’s not going to stop any time soon.

We ate a beautiful meal provided to us from the wonderful LVF Cuisine, salads, fresh local produce, meat (for those who are into that kind of thing), and outstanding deserts, the entire meal was just spellblinding, as a family of foodies were were incredibly happy. We all sat and devoured the meal along with a wonderful selection of wines into the afternoon. As the day went on we left the table to sit together around the garden as the day slipped into the night we laughed together and told tales of days gone by.

As the little ones grew tired our family chilled out and sung lullabies together to close the day in the most wonderful way. It was such a spectacular day, in every way possible. Full of colour, light and love. Nothing could beat it.
